Delhi qualify for final round for Santosh Trophy

NEW DELHI: Gaurav Rawat's goal has taken Delhi into the final round of the 76th National Senior Men's Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy. Host Delhi beat Karnataka 1-0 in a do-or-die match played at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium to top Group-1. On the other hand, Tripura tasted victory by defeating Ladakh 2-1 while Gujarat defeated Uttarakhand 3-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The hosts dominated in the one-sided match at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium, but Karnataka goalkeeper Satyajit Bordoloi's brilliant saves kept Delhi waiting a long time for the decisive goal. The deadlock was broken in the 77th minute when Gaurav Rawat scored the only goal of the match with a quick right footer on a well-coordinated attack between Jaideep and Ajay Rawat. IANS
